Endowed with rich and diversified natural resources,
abundant land, as well as relatively low business costs,
Indonesia holds vast potential for foreign investors.
This is especially so, given the country's large population
of close to 240 million, which constitute a huge potential
market and readily available workforce.
In recent years, Indonesia's attractiveness as an investment
destination has been further enhanced by the Government's
efforts to promote free trade and create a more open
economy. It has implemented a structured deregulation
program, where protective trade tariffs have been reduced
and export-oriented manufacturing encouraged. In addition,
various incentives have been introduced and foreign
investment has also been guaranteed basic rights such
as:
- Freedom from expropriation without just compensation;
- The right to remit profits, capital gains and
dividends within the guidelines of the Bank of Indonesia;
- The right to remit the proceeds of any liquidation
of investments; and
- The right to obtain foreign exchange to meet
principal and interest payments on foreign obligations.
