About CSR of Jababeka PDF Print E-mail

When Jababeka started developing its Industrial Estate in 1989, the area was recognized as dry land and only suitable for brick excavation. Also, the area stood out as traditional and underdeveloped in its economic activities. Nowadays, Jababeka’s township covers 5,600 hectares and contains more than 1,400 multinational and local tenants from 30 countries. Jababeka’s Industrial Estate has developed into a modern economic growth center, which is mainly based on manufacturing activities and services. The rapid change of the environment makes it difficult for the local community to adapt.

As the developer of the Industrial Estate, PT. Jababeka Tbk understands that parts of the local communities are still in need of support and assistance in order to improve their life. One method of providing such support is by means of a pro-environment management strategy that resulted in the Community Based Development model that works in accordance with the characteristics of the industry and local community in order to understand its various demands and social problems.

The Community Based Development model has focused on a series of activities and interaction processes that enable the local community to change their mindset, way of thinking and way of life, as an effort towards a harmonious, civilized, prosperous, and equitable society. The goal of this effort is to solve any social problems and/or economic, environmental, and social issues in order to provide positive benefits for society.

Jababeka’s CSR programs are designed based on the results of social mapping of real conditions and needs of the local community, which includes infrastructure, physical, socio-cultural, economic and other conditions. Looking at the current situation surrounding the industrial estate, Jababeka has realized that its social responsibility programs need to include several initiatives based on economic development, education, health, environment, religion, transportation, and other social welfare programs. Jababeka has tried to provide more trainings and education as well as teach responsibilities to the communities, rather than simply provide funding, in order to achieve the longer-term and sustainable results.

All of the social responsibility programs are a continuous and integrated part of Jababeka’s commitment in developing the community in various aspects. The goal of this overall effort is to build a sustainable industrial area together with the tenants and the Jababeka Investor Communication Forum, which is supported by the independent local community. These are long term investments for the Jababeka industrial estate and its tenants in the form of trust from the community and other stakeholders. The trust is the real capital base so that the company can continue to perform its activities.
