III, Jababeka Ink Digital Content Cooperation Pact

Taiwan’s state-backed Institute for Information Industry and Indonesia’s Jababeka Group concluded a memorandum of understanding on digital content development Sept. 10 in Taipei City.

The memorandum, signed by III Vice President Gary Gong and Jababeka Director Setiawan Mardjuki, requires both sides to jointly develop applications spanning animation, audio and video systems, e-learning, gaming and interactive motion sensor equipment.

“In particular, the pact will promote the establishment of an exchange platform for firms in Taiwan and Indonesia, and spur product and service development,” an III official said.

Such collaboration also includes developing applications for facilities such as movie theaters, industrial incubation centers, smart homes and theme parks, the official added.

A similar agreement was also arranged by the III between Jababeka and Taipei-based San Byte Taiwan Co. Ltd. “We will refer more local firms with established track records to Jababeka, and will provide consultation on market development in Indonesia and other parts of the world,” the official said.

The pact is a highlight of the Emerging ASEAN Markets – International Biz Workshop and Business Matching forum, which opened at Taipei World Trade Center the same day.

Co-organized by III and the Digital Content Industry Promotion Office under the auspices of the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Industrial Bureau, the one-day event focused on developing business opportunities for local firms in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam-three major economies in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

“The forum is part of ongoing government efforts aimed at tapping high-growth emerging markets for Taiwan’s digital content firms,” the official said.

In addition to speeches and seminars on market developments by officials and business leaders, the event featured around 20 matchmaking sessions and business visits. (SFC-JSM)
