Jababeka and Tenants Achieve the Target of Planting 50,000 Mangrove Seedlings
Cikarang, August 15, 2024 – PT Jababeka Tbk, through its subsidiary PT Jababeka Infrastruktur is again holding the annual Jababeka Ecoweek 2024 environmental event, at Pantai Bahagia, Muara Gembong, North Bekasi. Still the same as the previous year, this year’s Jababeka Ecoweek was held with the “Mangrove Planting” program. The planting ceremony will be held on Thursday (15/8/2024) and the planting of all contributor mangrove seedlings will be planted a month after the ceremony takes place.
The planting is targeted at 50,000 mangrove seedlings which will be carried out in stages starting from last year. The type of seedlings planted by themselves, namely the type of Mangrove tree (Rhizopora) as an effort to preserve the environment and reduce erosion in coastal areas, create a green belt as an effort to prevent abrasion, and help overcome tidal floods around the coastal area of Pantai Bahagia.
Invited the students of the President’s High School
Carrying the theme “Sustainable Mangrove Planting for a Greener Tomorrow”, this activity is part of Jababeka’s commitment to the tenants of the Jababeka Industrial Estate – Cikarang to preserve the environment, which is in collaboration with the Kelompok Sadar Wisata (Pokdarwis) Alipbata.
In his remarks, Vega Violetta, Director of PT Jababeka Infrastruktur, said, “In 2019 we have planted 10,000 mangrove seedlings, and today we are back with the same mission, but with a target of planting up to 50,000 seedlings which we will carry out gradually.”
“This year, deliberately, we invited 20 students of the President’s High School and even the President’s Junior High School so that they would know firsthand the conditions that occurred in the North of Bekasi, and what we can do to prevent this abrasion from occurring. Where this action is also included as a decarbonization effort,” added Vega Violetta.
This event was also attended by the Forestry Service of West Java Province (West Java) represented by Iding Supriatna as the Head of the Forestry Service Branch of Region 1 of West Java Province and also attended by Wahyu Wijaya as a Representative of the Government Officer of Muaragembong District.
In his remarks, Iding Supriatna said that the West Java Provincial Forestry Service always supports this planting activity and hopes that Jababeka can continue planting in Muaragembong. This is because the planting of mangroves has a positive impact on the people of Muaragembong District, especially the Pantai Bahagia area and its surroundings.
“The Forestry Service certainly fully supports the actions carried out by Jababeka and its tenants, from last year we saw firsthand how this planting took place again in the Muaragembong District Area. Hopefully, this planting can continue from year to year,” said Iding Supriatna.
This was also acknowledged by Wahyu Wijaya who saw firsthand the changes in conditions from year to year that occurred in the Pantai Bahagia area and its surroundings.
“I am very happy if there are companies that are willing to be involved and plant in our area. Because every seed planted has an extraordinary impact on our residents. Change is felt and happening. Floods are reduced, mangroves can also reduce coastal winds felt by residents, the economy has also been helped very well until now because it provides opportunities to develop processed mangrove products,” said Wahyu Wijaya.
Sonaji, Head of the Alipbata Pokdarwis, also conveyed the same thing. Where Sonaji also takes part in the use of land for mangrove planting and coordinates mangrove farmers at Happy Beach. This planting by Jababeka paves the way for other companies to participate in similar plantings so that the Mangrove Forest in Pantai Bahagia continues to grow and develop. The planting carried out is also the most extensive compared to other parties who plant mangroves on Happy Beach.
“Because of Jababeka, our mangrove forests continue to grow and become denser. It can be said that Jababeka is indeed a pioneer and the number of plantings that have been carried out is the most numerous and most extensive in our area compared to any company or party. Therefore, we are also very grateful to Jababeka and the tenants who have helped us here,” added Sonaji.
The event, which has been Jababeka’s annual agenda since 2018, was attended by 19 companies that contributed, including: EON Chemicals Putra, Nippon SCMI, Hanes Supply Cha, Hitachi Astemo Bekasi Mfg, Mane Indonesia, TUV Nord Indonesia, Anugerah Argon Medika, United Tractors, Piaggio Indonesia, Nippon Indosari Corp Tbk, FM Global Logistics, Supernova Flexible Packaging, Mitra Manunggal Mandiri, KAO Indonesia, Fukoku Tokai Rubber, Sari Takagi Elok Produk, Komatsu Undercarriage Indonesia, Sika Indonesia, Bima Adikarya Persada (BAP).
Through this action, Jababeka hopes to support decarbonization efforts and help the people of Muara Gembong District from the threat of abrasion and sea storms, so that it can improve the quality of life of local residents.
Jababeka initiates green belt
As a form of commitment to environmental conservation, Jababeka initiated the formation of a Green Belt in the coastal area of Muara Gembong. This Green Belt functions as a natural biofilter that can reduce the levels of toxic substances, heavy metals, H2S, and pathogens.
In addition, the Green Belt also plays a role in protecting ponds from erosion, abrasion, and strong winds that have the potential to damage pond support facilities, which are still the main source of livelihood for local residents.
Commitment to a greener future
Further, Vega – as he is commonly called – said that through this mangrove planting, Jababeka shows a real commitment to maintaining the balance of the coastal ecosystem. This mangrove planting is not only an effort to mitigate the environment but also a concrete step towards a greener and more sustainable future.
“With a target of planting 50,000 mangroves, Jababeka is optimistic that it can make a real contribution to environmental sustainability in the Muara Gembong area,” concluded Vega Violetta.
