Jababeka Eco Week 2021, Jababeka Implements Vetiver System to Realize Green Industrial Estate

PT Jababeka Tbk again held a collaborative environmental conservation program in 2021, namely Jababeka Ecoweek. In contrast to previous years where since 2017 they have planted mangrove trees to prevent abrasion, this year Jababeka has implemented a vetiver system on the banks of the Kali Ulu River, Jababeka Phase III Industrial Estate.
This effort was made because as the manager of the largest industrial area, Jababeka continues to innovate and collaborate with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), local governments, tenants, and stakeholders to create sustainability and preservation of the area. The goal is for the realization of sustainable development and the creation of Jababeka Green Industrial Estate.
Themed “Green Investment For Green Industry”, this year’s Jababeka Eco Week was held in the Jababeka Industrial Estate, Phase III by carrying out the Vetiver System Project program. This vetiver system was adopted as a green infrastructure, namely water and soil conservation, emission, absorption, infrastructure protection, erosion mitigation and hydrological disasters.
More deeply, the reason for choosing is because vetiver plants have several advantages that greatly benefit the Jababeka Industrial Estate environment. Aris Dwi Cahyanto as the Management Representative of the Jababeka Industrial Estate, explained that the roots of vetiver can have a length of 2-4 meters that can withstand landslides and the leaves can reduce carbon emissions that can recover the environment. So that it can be done in a sustainable manner to rehabilitate the area.
Meanwhile, on August 9, 2021, the first ceremonial planting will take place on the banks of the Kali Ulu River, Jababeka Phase III Industrial Estate while maintaining health protocols. This area will be a pilot project to be expanded to other riverbanks in the area.
Responding to this activity, Yoppie AmuGusman, tenant representative, Senior HRGA Manager of PT Hanes Supply Chain Indonesia, positively welcomed the environmental conservation program through this vetiver system. Yoppie said that these efforts are in line with the values of the company where he works
“Our company is very concerned about sustainability and in Indonesia we were asked to make a sustainable project, one of which is the environment. But the project must be clear or concrete in its benefits, and about this I spoke with the area management team. And we support the vetiver planting program on the banks of this river, for the sake of improving the ecosystem, which is close to us. Because this time it affected infrastructure as well, if the road has holes because there is unstable soil, it feels really annoying (Red: disturbing),” he said.
The same thing was also conveyed by Arman Manalu as the Sub-Coordinator for BBWS Planning. He hopes that this program will continue to run every year so that it can continue to synergize with the BBWS which is currently focusing on flood prevention in Lemah Abang River. “So, in the future, the Lemah Abang area and the Jababeka Industrial Estate will have minimal flooding,” said Arman.
Meanwhile, according to Irma Hutabarat from Bumi Pohaci as well as a representative of The Vetiver International Indonesia, the steps taken by Jababeka are appropriate in preventing flooding and landslides. Where Jababeka has paid attention to the preservation of upstream and downstream rivers.
He also hopes that the vetiver system program can run smoothly and the first pilot project will be successful. So that it can be an example for other regions and use this “green technology”
“This (is) a good start. Congratulations to Jababeka and its tenants. Hopefully in the future we can continue to work together to create a more sustainable and greener industrial area,” said Irma.
In response to all of this, Aris expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the parties and stakeholders who supported the Vetiver System Project program. Starting from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Ciliwung – Cisadane River Basin Center (BBWS), Bumi Pohaci, to tenants in the Jababeka Industrial Estate, such as PT Air Liquid Indonesia, PT Hanes Supply Chain Indonesia, PT Tokai Texprint Indonesia , PT Voestalpine Bohler Welding, PT Hitachi Astemo Bekasi Manufacturing and PT Fujiko Indonesia
“With mutual cooperation and cooperation with stakeholders, the government and environmentalists, he believes the vetiver system program can run sustainably,” said Aris optimistically.
