Jababeka Encourages Sustainable Business Practices at the 1st Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit 2024
Jakarta, September 20, 2024 – to support the sustainability of the industry in Indonesia, PT Jababeka Tbk through Jababeka Infrastruktur continues to strengthen its commitment through various strategic initiatives. This was conveyed by Cynthia Hendrayani, COO of PT Jababeka Infrastruktur, who was one of the speakers at the 1st Annual Indonesia Green Industry Summit 2024 which took place at the Golden Ballroom, Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, last Friday (20/9/2024).
Collaboration with tenants of Jababeka Industrial Estate
On this occasion, Cynthia – as she is usually called – emphasized that PT Jababeka Infrastruktur, as the manager of the Jababeka-Cikarang Industrial Estate, has set a target to achieve net zero through the development of sustainable industrial clusters. This strategy involves not only the company’s internal operations, but also close collaboration with large tenants, such as L’Oréal, Unilever, Mattel, Hitachi Astemo, PT TUV NORD, PT Kerry Ingredients, and others.
L’Oréal, through its “Sharing Beauty With All” program, focuses on recycling and waste reduction throughout the production stage, with the goal of achieving zero waste to landfills and improving energy efficiency in all its facilities, including in the Jababeka Industrial Estate.
Unilever, with its proactive approach, has successfully achieved the Zero Waste to Landfill target in all its factories, including those located in the Jababeka Industrial Estate, through a strategy of reducing, recycling, and reuse, ensuring that its production waste does not end up in landfills.
Hitachi Astemo has introduced an off-balance sheet solar power generation scheme. Where the company does not have solar power generation equipment installed in the factory, but instead pays for the electricity consumed based on the amount produced.
PT TUV NORD Indonesia also plays an active role in environmental conservation efforts by planting mangroves in the Seribu Islands and Bahagia Beach, as well as participating in programs such as the Eco Driving Program, monitoring and reducing CO2, and celebrating Diversity Month.
PT Kerry Ingredients is committed to creating products with a lower environmental impact, with a target of reaching more than two billion people through sustainable nutrition solutions by 2030.
Meanwhile, PT Mattel Indonesia shows its dedication to environmental sustainability by using 100% FSC-certified paper for packaging. Its printing center has been awarded the LEED Gold certificate from the USGBC for meeting green building requirements.
“We are committed to becoming the first Net Zero Industrial Cluster, and our tenants have expressed their support for this initiative,” said Cynthia.
Cynthia also highlighted the importance of the role of tenants in creating a greener supply chain. “This is a joint strategy, and our tenants understand the urgency to move towards sustainability,” he added.
Strategic initiatives of the Jababeka Industrial Estate manager
In addition to collaboration, PT Jababeka Infrastruktur also implements some policies that support the implementation of Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) as well as the principle of industrial symbiosis.
“We ensure the right master plan and provide infrastructure that supports sustainability,” Cynthia explained.
Through this collaborative approach, PT Jababeka Infrastruktur hopes that a sustainable industrial ecosystem can be created, where all parties play an active role in achieving the common goal of net zero in the Jababeka-Cikarang Industrial Estate.
