JABABEKA A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) WITH PERTAMINA FOR COOPERATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF GREEN INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

As an industrial estate development company that is integrated into an independent city, PT. Jababeka Tbk is committed to supporting the government’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions by 2030, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT. Pertamina (Persero) in the development of Green Industrial Estate. This is in line with government directives as stated in Presidential Regulation No. 98 of 2021, and President Joko Widodo’s directions in preparation for the G20 Presidency this year, one of which is about the energy transition.

The signing of this Cooperation MoU was held on January 18, 2022 at the Pullman Hotel- Jakarta to coincide with the Stakeholders Consultation agenda by Business 20 (B20) which is a series of events in the G20 Presidency by Indonesia.

The ceremonial signing of the MoU with the main theme “Partnership for Energy Sustainability & Decarbonization” consists of 4 (four) MoUs between Pertamina and its subholdings with various national and international corporate partners. One of them is a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Nicke Widyawati as President Director of Pertamina (Persero) and Budianto Liman as President Director of PT. Jababeka Tbk.

In addition to the agenda for signing the MOU, this event also presented business leaders in FGDs and plenary sessions. In addition, there is a showcase of Pertamina’s New Renewable Energy (NRE) projects that have been carried out by Pertamina so far. For your information, Nicke Widyawati’s presence at the event was not only the President Director of Pertamina (Persero) but also the Chair of Taskforce B20 on Energy, Sustainability and Climate.

Responding to the signing of the MoU, President Director of PT Jababeka Tbk Budianto Liman said that, “As the ‘home’ of more than 2000 industrial tenants from 30 countries, Jababeka sees that currently there is an increasing need for the use of New Renewable Energy (EBT) from multinational companies. especially those with a global commitment to be able to compete in the international market. One of Jababeka’s visions is to become a pioneer in Green Industrial Estate. Therefore, PT. Jababeka Tbk agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding with PT. Pertamina (Persero).”

Budianto added that the signing was also a form of commitment in exploring opportunities for cooperation in providing services in industrial areas that adhere to the principles of sustainable economic development.

After this signing, Jababeka is expected to contribute to the government’s agenda in carrying out the energy transition. The energy transition agenda is one of President Jokowi’s three priorities – in addition to global health and digital transformation – during Indonesia’s leadership at the G20 in 2022.

Managing Director of PT. Jababeka Infrastruktur Agung Wicaksono who is also the Deputy Chair of Taskforce B20 on Energy, Sustainability and Climate said that, “Jababeka has contributed to the G20 agenda, either by participating in providing policy recommendations through the B20 task force for a just energy transition, as well as through business action by collaborating with Pertamina as a BUMN that is included in the Fortune Global 500 at 287th in the world. PT. Jababeka Infrastruktur serves tenants, including companies that are included in RE100 as a global company that is committed to obtaining its electricity from renewable energy sources.”

As is known, PT. Jababeka Infrastructure is a subsidiary of PT. Jababeka Tbk whose role is to manage the infrastructure for the Jababeka Industrial Estate in Cikarang as a service to industrial and residential and commercial customers. One of its business units is PT. Bekasi Power as a provider of electricity supply to tenants, which has great potential to generate electricity from renewable energy sources. “This collaboration with Pertamina is expected to be able to increase the utilization of this renewable energy potential for the needs of the tenants,” concluded Agung.
