Minister of Environment Appreciates Jababeka as a Green Industrial Estate

Cikarang, June 30, 2025 – The Jababeka Industrial Estate received a working visit from the Minister of Environment / Head of the Environmental Control Agency, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, who was directly welcomed by the President Director of PT Jababeka Infrastructure, Didik Purbadi. The minister listened directly to a presentation about environmental management in Jababeka, including the world-standard infrastructure of the area, environmental management in both physical aspects as well as social programs, and the economic benefits.

Jababeka has transformed an industrial area into a modern city, independently integrated between industrial centers, housing, educational facilities, commercial, health, sports, and recreation (tourism), emphasizing quality of life through the provision of comfortable and sustainable infrastructure and environment.

In his presentation, Jababeka outlined efforts in environmental management through several innovations such as Digital Enviro Monitoring, installation of AQMS, utilization of Solar Energy for the Water Treatment Plant (WTP), revitalization of WWTP with Integrated Fixed-film Activated Sludge (IFAS) technology, and activities related to Biodiversity, such as the Jababeka Ecoweek Mangrove Planting Program, preservation of rare plants, conservation of deer in Ranca Upas, as well as Urban Farming and Botanical Garden. Innovations will continue to be made in the future to recycle water waste/drainage to support water resilience, self-management of waste, and to expand the Net Zero Industrial Cluster Community (NZICC) as a sustainability and decarbonization strategy.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Environment and Forestry/Head of BPLH appreciated the Jababeka area as the only Industrial Zone in Indonesia that has consistently achieved Green Proper.

“I greatly appreciate Jababeka for consecutively achieving the Green Proper, especially since Jababeka is the only Industrial Zone to receive the Green Proper. It is quite difficult for Industrial Zones to achieve the green proper,” said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.

Didik Purbadi added, “We will strive in 2025 to obtain the Green Proper again for the third consecutive time with the hope of achieving the gold proper, and with the innovations we have implemented, we are ready to become a national model for sustainable industrial zones.”

The working visit of the Minister of Environment, accompanied by the Deputy for Environmental PPK Rasio Ridho Sani, the Head of the West Java Provincial Environmental Agency Ai Saadiyah Dwidaningsih, the ranks of the Bekasi Regency Environmental Agency, and the field verification team from the Ministry of Environment, aims to conduct socialization and field verification in fostering compliance with environmental management regulations among tenants in the Jababeka industrial area. The working visit will last for two weeks and will involve direct visits to several companies within the Jababeka Industrial Zone.

Synergy and good collaboration are essential to creating a cleaner environment. On that occasion, it was agreed in principle to initiate the establishment of a joint desk between the Ministry of Environment and Forestry/Environmental Service and industrial zone managers to streamline services. Furthermore, Didik Purbadi hopes to be facilitated by the Ministry of Environment to set up an environmental research center at President University, which has a Faculty of Environmental Engineering that has been collaborating with industrial companies both in Jababeka and nationally.

The minister had the opportunity to directly inspect the new installation of the Integrated Fixed-film Activated Sludge (IFAS) Stage 2 plant at the Jababeka Waste Water Treatment Plant.

The latest IFAS owned by Jababeka is an innovation in the management of liquid waste in the area with a capacity of 14,850 m3/day and various advantages, including energy optimization and greater operational efficiency, energy efficiency, and superiority in the technology used in the treatment of biological waste capable of converting organic.

During the visit, the Minister of Environment and Forestry also planted the Kepel/Burahol Fruit Tree (Stelechocarpus Burahol), which is one of the rare plant species in Indonesia. Hanif Faisol – as he is commonly called, greatly appreciates the innovations made by Jababeka as the manager of the Industrial Estate in Indonesia.
