Strengthening Industrial Tourism, Jababeka Industrial Estate to Add Innovation Zones?

Jakarta, April 25, 2025THE JABABEKA Industrial Estate continues to strengthen its role as an educational industrial tourism destination in Cikarang, as launched by the Bekasi Regency Government. After being a location for students and college students to learn about infrastructure and facilities in sustainable industrial estate management, the Jababeka Industrial Estate also plans to add facilities by creating the largest industrial innovation center in Indonesia called IndiaTechZone. Really?

IndiaTechZone, an Indonesia-India collaboration
Yes, the plan to establish IndiaTechZone was announced in the forum “The Innovation Edge: India-Indonesia Collaboration Towards a Future Economy That Is Ready to Face Challenges”. The IndiaTechZone project will be developed through a strategic partnership with PT Jababeka Tbk. IndiaTechZone is expected to be the largest industrial innovation center in Indonesia, integrating up to 30 leading technologies from India and serving as an open innovation platform for industry collaboration.

IndiaTechZone will be an industrial innovation hub where Indian startups and technology companies can test and implement concrete solutions in an industrial environment. The zone will also provide a space for collaboration between Indian and Indonesian startups and local industry players, encouraging cross-border synergy in the development of industrial solutions.

Not only as an innovation center, IndiaTechZone will also be equipped with technical training facilities in the form of short-term courses and certification programs tailored to the needs of the future industry. This location will also be part of the industrial tourism program that has been running in the Jababeka Industrial Estate and is open to students, students, factory managers, and entrepreneurs. The goal is none other than to expand cross-cultural learning and increase the capacity of human resources who are ready to face the challenges of the future industry.

Positive response from relevant parties

President Director of PT Jababeka Tbk, S.D. Darmono, welcomed IndiaTechZone, which is currently still in the exploration stage. According to him, if it is realized in the future, this project can be a strategic step in encouraging economic growth in the region.

“This zone is not just about physical infrastructure. It is a platform to empower the community, the younger generation, and entrepreneurs. We have to think big and start small, but move fast. We must focus on one small area—as we started in 1989, thirty-six years ago, with the principle that ‘small is beautiful’. After that, we have to build an ecosystem in the region,” explained Darmono, as he is usually called.

Meanwhile, India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, said, “IndiaTechZone is not only designed as a technology showcase but also as a tangible manifestation of India’s commitment to Indonesia’s industrial transformation. It will be the world’s first permanent centre showcasing Indian technology on an industrial scale.”

Ambassador Sandeep emphasized the importance of IndiaTechZone in strengthening bilateral ties while promoting the economic development of the two countries. He added, “As soon as I mentioned this initiative to companies and investors, they immediately showed tremendous enthusiasm.”

In the event attended by the Ministry of Investment and Downstream (BKPM) itself, Ambassador Sandeep also proposed the possibility of establishing a Fast-Track Mechanism, which would allow periodic meetings between ministries led by BKPM to facilitate investment flows between the two countries.

Combine strengths, drive growth

In response to this, Darmono explained that many Indonesians are actually aware of the rapid progress that has been achieved by India.

“By combining the strengths of both countries—India’s technological and capital advantages with Indonesia’s market potential and industrialization ambitions—this partnership is projected to drive sustainable development, regional stability, and inclusive growth. Let’s start small, but never be afraid to think big,” Darmono concluded.
