The Excitement of the Tuna Fishing Competition in Tanjung Lesung, Participated by 299 Contestants
Pandeglang-Banten, August 1, 2026 – THE TUNA Game Fishing Competition 2026 was successfully held at the Tanjung Lesung tourist area on Saturday, August 1, 2026. This event became one of the sport tourism agendas that combined fishing competitions, promotion of marine tourism, and awareness of the conservation of marine resources. The competition was attended by 299 anglers grouped into 74 teams from various regions in Indonesia.
Since Saturday at 6:00 AM WIB, participants headed to fishing spots in the Sunda Strait waters to hunt tuna. Emphasizing sportsmanship, safety, and togetherness, the entire competition lasted more than eight hours and went smoothly, from fishing, weighing the catch, to awarding the winners.
Iqbal from Rangkasbitung, who is part of the One Peace Fishing team and won 1st place in the Tuna Game Fishing Competition 2026 with a tuna catch weighing 10.70 kilograms, said that the tuna fishing competition went very smoothly, was well-organized, and full of camaraderie among the participants.
According to Iqbal, the Tuna Game Fishing Competition 2026 was a fishing contest that allowed him to pursue his hobby while also serving as an opportunity to connect with fellow fishing enthusiasts from various regions.
“Hopefully events like this can continue to be held regularly. My team and I are really happy to bring home a total prize of Rp10.6 million from this event,” Iqbal exclaimed after the event.
The same sentiment was also expressed by Habibi from the Pelawan Team from Bekasi, who won the non-tuna category through his catch of a 6-kilogram sailfish (marlin) and received a prize of IDR 1 million. He admitted that this fishing competition provided a very enjoyable and memorable experience.
“It turns out this competition didn’t just test my fishing skills. More than that, I actually enjoyed meeting fellow anglers even more. The atmosphere was exciting, sportive, and full of camaraderie. I really enjoyed the event from start to finish, as well as the friendships that were formed,” he said.
Ade Asnawi, a young figure from South Pandeglang – who is also known as one of the pioneers of the new autonomous region (DOB) Cibaliung, said that in the future all stakeholders hope for an increase in fish populations, more tourist visits, and stronger community involvement in making Tanjung Lesung a top destination for sport fishing and coastal tourism.
“Through ongoing collaboration, the local community is committed to continually attracting more tourists and enhancing the area’s appeal both nationally and internationally,” H. Ade Asnawi hoped.
Responding to this, the Head of the Pandeglang Regency Tourism and Culture Office (Disparbud), Dr. H. Budi Suhardiman Januardi, S.Pt., M.M., expressed his appreciation to Tanjung Lesung and the related parties that organized the tuna fishing competition in Tanjung Lesung.
“Pandeglang Regency has a coastline of 307 kilometers, which is one of the longest in Banten Province. This potential should be utilized optimally through various activities that can boost the tourism sector. We hope more events can be held in Tanjung Lesung. Moreover, with the soon-to-be-operational toll road, access to this area will become much easier, so it is expected to attract more tourists, both domestic and international,” said Budi Suhardiman Januardi.
She hopes this event can continue to grow, reach a wider range of participants, and further strengthen Tanjung Lesung’s position as one of Indonesia’s top marine tourism destinations.
Meanwhile, Tanjung Lesung’s Chief Operating Officer, Ivonne Anggraini, said that this year’s Tuna Game Fishing Competition is the second time the event has been held, with the first one taking place in 2023.
“Hopefully in the future this event can be held again on a bigger scale. Of course, the feedback from this year’s event will be a learning experience so that the jackpot for the next event can be even bigger,” said Ivonne Anggraini.
Meanwhile, the Director of Tanjung Lesung and also the Head Organizer of the Tuna Game Fishing Competition, Kunto Wijoyo, hopes this event can further introduce Tanjung Lesung as a tourist destination for fishing enthusiasts in Indonesia.
“This event also aims to provide a space for various fishing communities to pursue their hobby. Hopefully, Tanjung Lesung can become a choice for these communities when they want to fish for big catches, as well as enjoy the beautiful marine tourism here,” added Kunto Wijoyo.
