World War II Monument Will Be Built in KEK Morotai

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Jababeka Group, through its subsidiary, PT  Jababeka Morotai,  as the manager and developer of the Morotai Special Economic Zone (KEK), has collaborated with the OISCA International College Foundation (OISCA International). This cooperation is related to the construction of  a World War II monument  in the KEK Morotai, North Maluku Province.

President Director of Jababeka Morotai, Basuri Tjahaja Purnama, said that the company will provide the location, land, and take care of all permits for the construction of the monument. Meanwhile, Oisca International is responsible for building the World War II monument and other supporting facilities.

“So, this is actually part of our steps to be  on the track in  advancing Morotai. This monument will attract tourists directly from Japan, that is, every year they will come to pray for their families. Because there are still thousands of bodies that have not been returned to Japan or have not been found and so on, “he said in an official statement, Monday (22/3).

Basuri explained that this cooperation was a concrete first step to make Morotai more familiar to Japanese people. Because, with this monument, the relationship between Japan and Morotai is connected, which is to make Japanese people come to Morotai.

“And the realization of this development itself is waiting for the design of the monument from OISCA International to be completed,” he said.

Not only that, Jababeka Morotai wants technology transfer by giving them free land to build  training centers  and supporting facilities. That way, said Basuri, local people can be trained to grow crops and make agricultural machines and so on, so that there will be an increase in capacity and an increase in the economy.

“This cooperation is a collaboration of applied science, so (the effect) is not finished. Our people are also trained to produce the best products to be sent abroad and this means that this will bring in foreign exchange, “he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of OISCA International Kuroda Yunosuke said he was happy to be working with Jababeka Morotai. According to him, the Jababeka Morotai side welcomed with open arms that this initiative should have been carried out by the Japanese for the construction of the World War II monument.

“We hope that with the monument, Japanese people, whose great-grandparents died in Morotai, can come to Morotai. They come so they can pray and also have a vacation in Morotai, so that an interaction appears and Morotai tourism is also awakened, “he said.
